FITNESS FOR DUTY EVALUATIONS
A psychological fitness for duty evaluation (FFD) is a comprehensive assessment performed by a psychologist who is trained and experienced in conducting these types of forensic evaluations. An FFD assists employers in determining an individual's mental and emotional stability relative to their job responsibilities. These evaluations are requested by employers when an employee’s work behaviors or personal situation suggests that they may be experiencing psychological distress that may negatively impact their job performance, or the safety of themselves or other employees. The evaluations typically involve conducting a detailed clinical interview, administering standardized psychological tests, and reviewing the individual’s work history, job description, and personal circumstances. In most cases a report is then generated to the employer, which includes the findings of the evaluation and recommendations as to whether they are safe to remain on the job or if they would benefit from time off, as well as making recommendations pertaining to any mental health treatment that may be helpful.
